I have the $129 Navionics chip and it’s “pretty good”, but not great. Mille Lacs is off by a few hundred yards in some spots…If I want a really good Mille Lacs, Farm Island, Bay, Winni, LOTW, Rainy chip which one is it and how much $$$? Jolly Marine I told you that if I was ever in the market for anything I would be certain to come to you first because you helped me with my 332 question. Please help!

I had that same chip also and although it was helpful, not very accurate. The Navionics Hot Maps PRemium North is the chip you are looking for. It has very detailed 1′ contours of Mille Lacs and aobut 6 others at least. Mille Lacs is really pretty close in most instances. It has a ton of other MN lakes. Not to mention ND,SD, WI, and MI. I’m sure all the others you spoke about are on it. Perhaps not to the same great detail and accruateness of the 1′ lakes, but decent. This chip is $149.99. I beleive you can also trade in that old chip and receive $75.00 back for it. I did last year. Then if you do buy it from Wade @ jolly Ann he has No sales tax for us MN’s and no shipping I believe. Saving about$10.50 in tax.

The other thing both Jolly Ann and Navionics are site sponsors.

thanks for the response. The guys at Reed’s swear by the LakeMaster one for $89.00 but it doesn’t include LOTW Canada. Does the Nav Gold? Nice trip with MW on P2. How is it that you two are able to spend so much daylight time during the week fishing? Valentines Day? You guys married? Jobs? I’m jeleous! Graduated a couple years behind Mike W at AHS.

If you are off by that much, I would have to think you are running on the wrong Datum file setting.

    Have you checked your settings?

I’d have to agree. I have that chip and found it to be dead on.

what the heck is a Datum File setting? Sounds like a little sports car from the early ’80’s. Seriously, I have a H20 and have no idea what that is or how to adjust it.

Not all GPS’s run on the same settings. If the chartographer records a lake using one datum file, and you try to read that chart using a different datum setting, you can be way off. I don’t know the exact number, but I think there are something like 100 different datum settings used world wide.

Lip Ripper has it right, except the rebate for the old chip is $50 this year (since they reduce the price by $50). Premium North is very good on Mille Lacs and has the one-foot contours. The MN Lakemaster chip is also very good on Mille Lacs but does not have LOTW Canada on it. This newest Navionics Premium has a ton of MN lakes on it, as well as ND, SD, WI, IA, and MI. You can trade-in your old chip and basically get the new chip for $100, after the rebate on the old chip. Feel free to PM me or email me if you have any other questions.

The Navionics Premium North is the chip to buy. Excellent detail on many lakes.
