Still trying to make up my mind on a new flat bottom boat for this year. Here is some info on tunnels a guide on the MN river directed me to. Thought it was interisting.

Thought this was very good info for anyone considering a tunnel hull. The person I got this info from sounded like he may of had to learn about the cavitation problems of a true flat bottom boat the hard way.

Thanks for the link. The more info a person has the better. Now what we need is some dealers of this type of boat around here. i would love to be able to take a couple of different boats out for a test drive from one dealer especially if that dealer is in Minnesota or Wisconsin. It’s hard to run to Mich.then out to PA. then to Washington or Oregon. Why doesn’t some of the dealers in this area offer this types of rig. Steve

Amen to that. Hallberg marine had a 16 waterfowler with a tunnel on it but sold it the day before I got there. Starks claims to have alot of jons on hand but I have not checked to see if they have the models I am looking at.
My next step is to contact some of the manufactors and see if I can get some more specific info from them. There is not alot of info in there sales flyers.
Went to the boat show yesterday to see if I could find any more info on tunnel hulls and found very little. I didnt really expect any different. I was suprised when I even had one dealer tell me there is only tunnel hulls for prop motors and none made of jet motors.

Starks has several different models but they won’t put a jet on it for you. If you check out Smitty’s in Lake City you will find Lowe boats there, even the tunnel models. I still want a Wooldridge Alaskan 17′ 6″ model. Might as well put one of these new Evinrude 90 hp motors on it with a jet, stanless impeller, and might as well have a new Evinrude kicker motor.Maybe we could get a deal on two. Hey that’s an idea who else wants a Wooldrige (you can even get them with heaters, windshields, full canvas, windshield wipers, defrosters) Man you cold weather river rats would love a heater. Steve

Just got off the phone with stark’s marine and I think I have finally made up my mind about a tunnel hull. No tunnel hull for me. I was looking to put a 30 maybe 40 HP prop on a 16′ tunnel hull boat. Thinking that a extra 6″ of clearence that the tunnel and higher transom would provide might help me out on some of the shallow waters I run. The clearance issue turned out to be only about 2 to 3 inches with some added problems of the prop cavating. Sounds like there might be some handling issues also. Looks like I would need to go to a much bigger boat to get what I am looking for.
I think I will try to get starks to add a little to this post they seemed to be very knowledgeable about this subject.
