Has anyone run or own one of these motors? Very serious about putting one on a 1995 Lund Pro-V. Price is right and just wondering about trolling and how big of a gas hog it is?

I bought a 1999 17 ft. Yarcraft last year that came with a 150 carburated VMAX, with about 50 hours….boat and motor were cherry condition. I can tell you that I dont think you’ll be dissappointed with the get-up-and-go this engine has. Trolling might be tough, depending how slow you want to go. I troll about 60 to 80 hours a season on Lake Michigan, and have always had a kicker on my boats to lessen the wear and tear on the big boy. The couple times I tried to troll with the VMAX, didnt go any slower than about 2 mph. Having had a 90 hp carbed Johnson on the 17 ft. Alumacraft I sold to get the yarcraft, I was used to mediocre fuel economy, and can say in general, its not very good with the VMAX, compared to some of the other more costly options out there. As I don’t have the need for speed,(pushes my Yarcraft just over 50 mph), I would prefer a smaller engine. If you’d have any interest in buying my 1999, then we should talk. I’d probably switch to a 115 hp Yamaha. Good luck in the decision process.

I’m replacing a 1994 115 Johnson and the fuel economny is poor. I have 3 teenage sons and my wife’s brothers family that love to tube and knee board. The 115 is getting a work out and seems to do all it can to pull the tube/kneeboard on my Lund Pro-V 1890. My thought is that the gas mileage can not be much worse using the VMAX 150??? Will not troll with it much, but thought the option may come in handy(mostly cranks and speed troll jigs) Will use it most of the time running from spot to spot on 5,000 acre lake. So it should not take much time and no need for all the speed to hit my honey holes

Does anyone have anything to add that would push me to buy or not to buy the VMAX 150???
