Since the MN river in Bloomington is my home waters Monday-Friday will a planer board work from shore? Any ideas for baits and how to rig them? Any idea what might live in this river? thanks

It will work from shore if there is enough current to get the board out, however, most likely you bait will be dragging along the bottom as you let line out and you will have a mess when you get the board where you want it.

I would try a slip sinker and a long cast if you want to get bait out into the river.

    genegr,

I agree with Scott as well. A slip sinker rog or a 3-way rig would work here.
Not sure on your location in Bloomington, but there are some very good shore fishing spots for all species on the Mn river around the backwater cuts as well as the Black Dog plant discharge area. THese areas offer some very good fishing for all species. The Black dog area can be exceptionally good for some big walleyes late in the fall. Try pitching lighter jig/plastic combos and work them along the discharge current seams. I am no expert on the MN river in that area, but I have had some success in these areas!

I agree with the other two guys here. That river is a lot like the Chippewa River here in WI. When I fished from shore I did a lot of Lindy Rigs and 3 way rigs here and it worked great. I’ve seen people try the planer board thing with little “positive” results.

Thanks guys looking forward to trying a few different ideas. The water is moving tonight but I’m sure it won’t be like this during opening weekend. Krisko my Saturday-Sunday water is the Yellow River, like to learn some hot spots on Wissota.

I’m sure we could figure something out. Plus Brooktrout(Jason), and Jason Sullivan fish it a lot also. If I can’t get you onto some fish there I’m sure one of them can. Just give a shout in the summer
