Transducer mounting?

Which is best, mounting the transducer on the transom or a thru hull configuration? I prefer the thru hull because it is not going to get damaged or misaligned. I wonder if any power/sensitivity is lost when going through a fiberglass hull.

I know a lot of guys that shoot threw glass boats, just make sure NO air pockets and also level when installing.
Transom mounts are better IMO. I like playing with the ducer till I get it just right. Once dialed in some silicone and tighten the screws. Never have I had on come loose.
Just look at some pro boats and hardly ever do you see a threw hull ducer.

wcurl, You will lose up to 10% of your power going thru the hull. I second the recommendation of putting the transducers on the transom. I use a mounting board and have it color matched to my boat. The board allows for moving, adding, or adjusting transducers for optimum performance with minimal holes in the transom. If you do want to put the transducer in the hull have qualified person install it! I have seen and heard horror stories of multiple transducers being epoxied in the hull with poor performance of the locator. Good Luck! 690reece

Ditto what these guys said… Transom mount if you can.

I have my transducers mounted thru hull. (Vexilar Edge) I’m happy with the performance. If there is a small loss of power, I have not noticed it. I would do it again with the next boat.

Same here too…….Through the hull………With my boat, I actually don’t have much of a choice because of my transom design (Champion)……I’m shooting both Lowrance and Pinpoint through the hull and they work great!!!!!
