Is There a Good Closed-Face Spincast Reel?

My wife hates using my spinning reels or baitcasters. Is there a quality closed-face spincast reel on the market? As kids, we always used Zebco 202’s, etc, but the drags were horrible. I am willing to buy a good quality reel if anyone has a good recommendation. Shimano and Diawa have one in the Bass Pro catalog but I have not heard of anyone using them. Thanks.

i have one of the red rhino spincast reels and i used to use it all of the time and it worked great. now my grandpa takes it to canada and he likes it to, a couple of my uncles also bought them, they have a pretty good drag on them too.

The Zebco Omega is pretty good.I’ve owned a couple for two years now. They cost about $50 last time I looked. If you don’t fish a lot the 33 might be enough, but get the one with steel gears.I usually try new ones of any brand when they come out.Nothing has held up for me other than Zebco. The overall quality and durability of these reels has gone down over the last 10 years, but Zebco has treated me well when I mail them back to the address in Oklahoma that is listed on the warranty info.

I’ve been looking for the same reason. I tried the Rhino reel and returned it for another cuz it reeled tough. The replacement reeled the same way. I bought her an Abumatic 475 and had the same complaint. Since I mostly fish for cats, I resigned myself to casting for her, but would still like to get her something that was easier for her. Crappie-wise, has anybody used the Pfleuger Underspin? For bigger fish, has anybody used the Diawa Goldcast?

I have a mid-size Daiwa from a few years back,It did not last very long for me.I have a Zebco 888 I use for fishing bass in heavy cover. That might work for cats, although some I’ve seen posted here might be hard to handle.

I still today use a SYNERGY spin cast reel on my 2 piece trunk rod and have had ZERO complaints with it in 4 years of use

Take a look at the Daiwa Goldcast and Silvercast reels. They are built extremely well and have been around for years. My uncle has the same ones at his cabin that I learned to fish with over 25 years ago! He cleans them once a year and puts new line on and they are still running strong! 690reece

100% agree with reece. The silver cast are especially budget friendly and work well.
