I am looking for feed back on this motor. Cold weather starting, oil consumption, fuel economy, plug fouling all pros and cons from owners.

I believe James Holst has had this motor and possibly Dustin as well…maybe they’ll chime in here. I think James really liked his but he can tell the story.

The 175 is / was a fantastic motor. I ran the hell out of mine for 3 years and enjoyed incredibly reliable performance. Easy starting, quiet when compared to other DIF motors at the time, and great oil and gas consumption.

Overall the motor was rock-solid. I did have one mechanical issue…

My sole hiccup was when a lifter pump diamphragm developed a pin sized hole and it would cause a “flutter” in the RPM’s at WOT. I’d be willing to bet 95 out of 100 guys wouldn’t have even noticed it. LaCannes diagnosed it quickly and after that fix under warranty, I believe that happened year 2, everything was flawless.

I’d recommend the motor. 5 stars.

I have run this motor on my boat for the last 4 years. It’s been good for me. I did have an incident in the the fall of 2004 but after further inspection it was my fault.

I would not have a problem purchasing another one.

Bulletproof. I had a 2002 150 V-Max HPDI on my last rig and currently have a 2004 200 HPDI and they both were fantastic. Immediate starting, efficient on fuel and oil and both had plenty of punch. The 150 V-max had excellent acceleration. I wish they made the V-Max HPDI in a 25″ shaft, I’d buy another one in an instant.
