Transom question

Okay, I have a friend that has a flat bottom and a new trailer that he will sell me for a decent price. Problem is, it is a short transom. Since I cannot seem to find a short shaft motor anywhere for a reasonable price, can I get the transom built up to make it 20″? I would take it to a pro and have it done of course. Has anyone ever done this or know if it is possible?

I’ve seen it done on a boat by using some plywood bolted onto the transom. It was only a 5hp motor. I’m sure there is someone out there that can add on to the transom and make it last.

Just a word of caution. We have several 14 foot boats with 15 inch transoms. When changing over to 4-strokes it became a real hasstle to get the old 14 footers to plane because of the weight of the 4-strokes. I would make sure that the boat you’re thinking of converting can handle the weight of the motor. Especaily if it’s going to be a 4-stroke.
