How important is tilt/trim?

I found a boat that I may be interested in I haven’t looked at it yet, but, it is a deep V console with a 60 hp motor w/out tilt and trim Is this really necessary to have to fish the river? The only problem I can see is trying to lift a heavy motor to get it up and in a locked position at shallow ramps and such. What are your thoughts on this?

I had a 55 one time that didnt have t&t. It wasnt bad to lift it up.The thing that i didnt like about it was being a Bass guy i fish alot of skinny water. You on the other hand fish the dark side so i dont know if that would come into play. When i fished out that boat i wouldnt lock the motor down in case something jumped in front of me. Hope this may have helped ya

Most motors tilt easy enough.. A little effort, but not too bad.

For running real shallow water, most motors have a 1/2 tilt position on them. This is not for running high speed, but it should get you where you need to go within reason. There are aftermarket tilt options that are a bit on the spendy side if desired on a later time.

I dont think your going to have much of an issue without the power tilt. You will get your motor trimmed where you want it after running it a couple times if its not set where you want it now.

I have it on my 60 tiller. I would definitely recommend getting it. T&T is well worth it. Besides, who wants to run back and forth lugging the motor up and down all the time? And it is invaluable when you need to get up and on plane. you should not be without it.

I can’t imagine going up a back water slough without T&T.

Yep, that is my thoughts as well I do like the option of trimming the motor up and getting into shallower waters. Or at least having it to get out of shallow spots Oh well, the search for a boat begins again

A tilt and trim also helps make it a smoother ride. and get the nose out of the water.

I had a 50 w/o T&T and hated it…the dealer installed an assist gas piston to make it lighter to lift but it was still a monster. My new F40 Yamaha has T&T and it is wonderful for running the shallows, loading onto the trailer, and all the other reasons you might think of. Spend the money now…you’ll be happy later.

I forgot to mention that I am constantly using my T&T to level the boat or get it into proper planing aspect depending on my passenger load, the water chop and the prop I have on it that day. Trim it way down and pop out of the hole even with a load, then trim it up to get on plane for easy and efficient running. More than my $0.02 but I am sold on T&T

My first boat did not have t&t and it was the worst ride you could imagine! T&T will make for a much better ride!!!!

Mine (chin walked) bounced up and down at wide open, wouldnt plain out. I would look for a boat with T&T!

Bass Pro has them listed for around $500.00.
not cheap, depends on the price of the boat
