I’m looking into buying a Vexilar Flasher for ice-fishing and maybe to use in the boat as well. I know a few of the differences between the two models, but does anyone have any recommendations on which one go with? Are the features of the FL-18 worth the extra $100? Thanks for the help!
The FL-18 model would be a go in deeper water, if you fish shallow lakes all the time save the $100 and take mamma out for dinner.

In my humble opinion, YES. I love the zoom capabilities of the 18. I like the low power settings for shallow fishing, the 12 degree transducer would suite my style of fishing better and it’s 30% brighter for use in the boat. I highly recommend if you don’t already have a flasher to fork out the extra hondo. It will pay for itself in the end, especially if you are walleye fanantic.
I’ve got the 8 right now and love it, it works, so I have a hard time going to the bookkeeper for the 150 it’s going to cost me to upgrade. Either way you’ll love ice fishing more after fishing over the vexilar.

I think the extra $100 is worth the investment.
I have the FL-8, think it’s really a nice unit but my buddy has the FL-18…..he just raves about the split screen where the bottom 6 feet are on the left of the screen. He loves his too.
I have never known anyone that said I wish I would have got the 8 instead. The 18 is awesome and will be on the bow of my boat come summer. Anyone that is going to be at the Otter Round Up can check mine out.
Go for the 18… I love mine.
