I’m heading for Red next week and am going to throw a tip up out for pike during the day, and wanted to try using a quick strike. I am wondering if anyone has used them before or might have any comments or tips.

I make my own quick strikes and use them all the time for pike. If you are using live bait, put one hook just in front of the dorsal fin and then one just in front of the tail. If you are using dead bait, put one in the back of the head and the other between the dorsal and then tail.

When the flag goes up, let um have it. Pretty easy stuff. I don’t like to let them take it because the last thing you want is two trebles in their stomach

You will get a lot more hook-ups with a quick strike rig. Like I said, I use them all the time.

Scott, do you have any pics? I have not fished flags since college for pike and looking at getting back into it. Does this have beads or spinner on it? Are trebles still illegal plain on tip ups in MN?

Yep, trebles without a bead and blade are illegal.

Go to most tackle shops and they have them pre-made, ready to roll.

There is some very good information on quick strike rigging on this site if you do a little searching. I found this link very helpful. I hope the link works…..if not, some please explain….never linked before.

Here is some info on Quickstrike Rigs.

I’m sure there is more on this site regarding these, if you dig around.
