I was in Dicks on Thursday and they have some pretty good deals going on right now. I picked up a Scent Blocker suit, jacket and pants were both 129.99, rang up at 99. And a pair of Rocky 1200 gram boots originally 129, for 89. Now all my christmas money is spent! To bad I have to wait until Sept to use the new scent suit.

The Dick’s Sporting goods near me has $70 Okuma Stratus spinning reels with 8 bearings, 30 size, for $29.95 on clearance. I had to pick up a pair of those.

Rip, I believe I got the Safari suit. It has lots of pockets and plenty of adjusting for layering as the weather gets colder. I’ll take a closer look when I get home today.

Ok Rob, I got the Dream season jacket and pant, they do not have the zip out carbon liner. Each were marked at 149.99 originally. Then marked down to 129.99. I thought what the heck, I’ll get them both. But they didn’t have my size in the coat (Large). So I bought the pants at Woodbury, and it rang up at 99. I said holy crap, ran to Richfield and bought the coat which also rang up at 99.

    Thats what I know…

That is a great deal. thats their latest suit. It is whisper quiet and a awesome bow hunting suit. I have one and love it. I shot my big 8 with it this year. The Pants are normally $139.99 and jacket S149.99 so you got a great deal. Congrats, on a great suit. I wore mine until the last sit this year. I have a Scent Blocker fleece Pro-Tec, that I usually throw over the top of that jacket when it gets a little cold.

I went there last night with my kids. The Woodbury store. I wanted to pick up some new reels for the ’06 season, and I had some American Express points to burn off. Anyway, I wanted to look at those Okuma reels. No sales people. ANYWHERE! So I walked over to Hunting. No one in sight. I walked back to Fishing. No one anywhere on the whole upper floor! Anywhere!
So I left, and I told the manager on my way out that I was prepared to spend over $100 on reels, and no one was even on the floor. And walked out. Got to Gander Mountain, went to Fishing, and had two guys who follow IDA on me talking fishing within 30 seconds! Bought 3 Guide Series rear drag models from the lads!
    Guys at Gander!

See I for one just never saw dicks (nor Galyans) as a true fishing store, yeah they seem to carry some stuff, but the seem way more interested in selling basketball hoops and clothing. IMHO anyways. I don’t think many places can compare to Gander, they may not always have the most employees on the floor (like you may have to wait a bit) but you can always find them. I wandered around Fleet farm for a good half hour without seeing anyone helpful in the fishing department (not to say I was really looking). It’s alright I didn’t need anymore help

Tuck, I’ll agree with you on that one. But since my wife likes to shop a lot longer at Dicks than at Gander, I can do what I call pre shopping. While she is looking at shoes and what not, I take a look around, get my list ready in my head, then go to Gander!

I’m going to have to use that one too, “No honey, I’m not shopping, I’m preshopping”

I would agree, however Galyans stores were better off when they were Galyans. Dick’s has made them even worse, with much less inventory and selection. The last time I was there buying downriggers, they had no downrigger balls and there was no help. I commented that now I know why they call it Dicks!

fishingnuts, I’ll agree with that, for equipment Dicks is lacking and the staff, well, I don’t need to comment on that anymore. But I have found that they do have a better selection of clothing, at least in my size than Gander.
Now that may be because more people are shopping at Gander than Dicks, or they have better inventory?

I don’t know, they both get way to much of my $.
