But with the st. croix, it doesn’t go into the coils, usually.

I’ve had mine caught in there plenty of times on my St.Croix! I was so pissed at it last time…..The sping is no longer there. I could’nd even adjust my sring to make it a little stiffer. There’s gotta be better options out there! I’m willing to sell my St. Croix….Not worth the money to me!

You using the croix like a twirling baton or what?

Yea the line will get up in the spring once in a while after I toss the rod to the side to grab the dead stick or something…

Remember Chap, you have to push the spring from either end to adjust the sensitivity, don’t pull on the spring to adjust it…

Go see Dean, grab a new spring and all will be better.

I can honestly say that my catch rate has gone up dramatically using the croix spring bobbers, I don’t use anything but them anymore.

I agree with you Jami, the St Croix Legend Ice system is the best on the market, and by far the best spring bobber I have ever used

Must say, I have learned a ton since this post in 2006

Well now the question becomes how much are you willing to let that baby go for? I can put a case of beer in the car tonight…

Hey do you guys know where to find St. Croix spring bobbers? thanx

We carry them and have adapters available as well.

Dean, Besides some cookies when I finally make it down, what is the cost to have a set up sent to a guy?

    bret,
try making your own spring bobbers out of mason leader material. use the different size diameters for different wieght jigs/jigging spoons. make the loop about the size of a nickle, this prevents ice-ups. put a nail in the vice, about the size of your rod tip, with the other end, make about 4 or 5 wraps around the nail keep them spaced enough so you can thread it on the rod. a couple wraps with some good tape and you are set to go. if you want to get fancy, dip the loop in white paint, then paint with blaze orange or pink. as far as length goes, trial and error, see what works best for you. i use all st croix solid graphite blanks or st croix graphite fly rod tips that i spin up myself. i hope this helps…………tom fellegy

Ryan, I got one of these adapters from dean to convert another rod to use a croix spring bobber, I tied it onto the rod using the same material I use to tie hair jigs. Not the prettiest, but it works!

To prevent line getting into spring on the St Croix just put electrical tape on the portion that is showing on the reel side. Works for me.

I personally like the spring bobber on the St Croix Legend ice fishing rods the best. VERY sensitive. Best one I have ever seen and used.
    Thanks, Bill

Would you happen to have any photos of this. Sounds interesting.

Here is a slip bobber I have been trying this year. There is a small piece of tubing that the wires goes threw. I have taken this and attached it to the end of the rod and this allow the set up to be adjustable. The beads on the end of the bobber are easy to see. The light wire loop on the end is easy on forming ice also.

It is the hair wire spring bobber.

Ive tried the flat wire spring bobbers but they seem a little stiff. Been staying away from the coil type bobbers. They look like getting line tangled in them may be a issue. The coil types where the line feeds threw the center look like ice build up would be a issue.

Just put the spring wire bobber on a rod. This is the top one in the link. It looks to have some promise. It attaches to the rod very easy, is adjustable and fairly sensitive. A couple of thing I dont like all ready but could be fixed are the small coil that attaches the bobber to the rod easily slips off. The tip indicator could be better also. Some small plastic tubing would be better for both of these. A brite bead on the end would be nice also. A little cement on both the spring and tip indicator seems to be working for now to hold them in place.

Anyone try the Customm Jigs and Spins Spring Bobbers yet? They look pretty decent. Thin wire, adjustable. Just cant seem to find them in any stores around here yet.

i have one st croix legend that i bought this year and i think it is great for detecting light bluegill bites. I also like the spring bobber that came with my favorite panfish rod the berkley XLE ultralight combo. It is a lot like the frabill panfish popper springs. As for crappie bites I like the ice buster bobber by todays tackle.
