I’m going to point this at you again Scott.

I was talking to a lurker that registered the otherday Outfishchappyguy…(love that handle!)

He was saying the MarCum is made in the USA and Vex is made in Japan.

Maybe I should be asking Derek this?

    What’s the scoop?

I couldn’t find anything on Vexilar’s site about this but I called their customer service and they said the parts come from Japan and they are assembled in Minnesota. Marcum’s site says they are designed, manufactured and tested in the USA. It’s quite possible that some or all of the Marcum parts could be foreign made as well and that “manufactured” means “assembled”.

The bottom line is they both work very well, both are of high quality, and both have outstanding customer service. Fisherpeople willl be happy with either one.

I would agree with that statement. Although I could argue about MarCum having the edge….but I’m not. That’s been hashed out enough…I think.

My concern is with all the outsourcing, layoffs ect. if one company does more in the USA than the other….even if they were equal in performace and price…it would be better to support the American worker than to help anyother country’s economy.

    IMO of course.

Being an LX-3 owner I could argue that as well.

I generally buy the best quality in my price range regardless of where it’s built. All things being equal, I will support USA built stuff but only if the quality and service are there. If Japan builds something better than the USA for the same price then I’m getting the Japanese built product.

    Hmmm. Misleading marketing.. IMO

Vexilar is also designed(blue-prints), manufactured(put together with foreign parts) and tested(used by fisherman) in the USA.

As well as Lowrance, Garmin, Hummingbird, Eagle, etc….

They all say, “our products are designed and put together right here in the good ol’ USA, right after we get the circuit boards from our over seas friends.

So Guy’s, Where’s your Computer, TV, Stereo and anything else electronic made? Really anything that’s cheap for that matter ie. Wally World. You’d be hard pressed to find ANY electronics made without off shore parts, not just Japan but China, Malasia, Singapore, India etc. I guess the important thing IMO is who is getting the profits, American companies or not? It’s something to think about since we now live in a global economy and it’s not the ’50’s anymore.

    Later,

    Ferny.
p.s. All 4 of us will be using our FL-18’s at LOW next week I wish one of us had a Marcum to compare the two.

Misleading marketing??? Why I’ve never heard of such a thing.

Years ago I got a kick out of the virtually backlash free v-spool reels or magnetic baitcast reel wars. Virtually backlash free??? Hmmm…

Virtual – Existing or resulting in essence or effect though not in actual fact, form, or name.

That sounds exactly like what marketing is. It’s the essence… the essence of B.S.
