best vhf antenna?

    just got a new vhf and am looking for a good antenna. right now i am thinking the shakespeare 5225-xt(about $100), is it better to spend the cash or can i get good resuts with something else?

    I am also going through the same thing with all the choices it can be a little mind boggling.
    I have found a lot of really good info at this link and Wade from Jolly Ann Marine, he has taking the time and answered almost all of my questions.

    Keep in mind that VHF is line of sight to determine distance to trans and receive. if you are on smaller water, and hardly on big water then a 4 footer ant would be fine, if you are alot on big water, then you might want to consider an 8′ foot ant. And it depends on your boat if you can easily handle an 8 footer. lots to think about. longer antenna means more range, and more safety.

    check out the shakespeare little giant…I bought it from Jolly Ann Marine and it is a great big little antenna…

    it was recomended highly !!!

    Been running the little giant for 2 seasons. Very good antenna. I can shoot a signal across Mille Lacs, no problem.
