Lund Jackplate

I just found this site while cruising around on the internet so I figured with all these members somebody would be able to help me with a question I have.
I own a 2005 Lund Mr. Pike with a 25″ 150hp Mercury Optimax. Currently I am running a 21p Tempest Plus prop and have the motor up one hole. I have experiment with numerous props and the 21p is not optimal by far running 49 to 51mph @5000 to 5200rpm.
I purchased this boat new this year from a relatively new dealer just north of here (Toronto), the price was great but any set-up support was dismal.
So my question is has anybody ever tried a jackplate on their Lund (or even any aluminum boat) and how did it work out? Or if somebody has a the same or similar boat what kind of set-up are you running (motor height/prop) and what kind of performance?

Any help here would be appreciated.
Thank you and take it easy.

Have you tried raising the motor first? I think you’ll be wasting your money on a jackplate. I was running a 14×20 SS on a Explorer 1800 with a Suzuki 150 and getting 5400 RPM and around 54-55 GPS Mph on calm waters. Suzuki told me I was getting the most I could from the boat. I had the motor on the second hole from the top on the transom.

Derek’s on the right track. I’ve owned a lot of Lunds and you’re getting pretty close. I’d raise the motor one more hole and you just might have a touch too much prop. My 1775 Pro-V with a 150 Yammi V-max performed best with a 14×20 stainless. I found this prop at Cabelas.. You ought to get about 53-5400 on the tach and about 53 mph if you’re dialed in and running on relatively calm water.

Thank you very much gentlemen. I have recieved a better response here than in the last 8 months on various other forums.
I forgot to mention my boat is 18’2″ long and likely the same as Derek’s hull. I did move the motor up one hole but speed and water presure remained the same.

    Thank you

I also had the 25 inch like you as well. What hole are you on now?

I have my motor mounted one hole pitch up from the bottom (about 3/4 inch). I think the Tempest Plus would be the ideal prop at a 19″ pitch but I purchased the 21″ pitch based on a stupid decision. I tried a Trophy Plus (4 blade) with a 21″ pitch and ran 49mph @ 5400 rpm. The hole shot was good so I figured the same pitch in a three blade would be perfect. What I didn’t know was that the Tempest Plus had a massive (14 5/8) diameter.

I tried calling Lund but once I asked a question that wasn’t on their stat sheet they didn’t have much to say. They recomended a 19″ pitch Laser with an end result of 47mph. No thank you. I’d rather play around and try to achieve that illusive 55mph. I know I didn’t purchase a speed demon but I don’t think I’m being unrealistic.

    Thanks guys

With the Lunds, 55 is gonna be the exception and not the norm…

Greg is correct. Because of the extra wide beam and chine on the Lunds, hitting that 54-55 is not normal. But definately raise that motor.
