Battery/Trolling Motor Problem?

I need a little help here guys. When I plug in my Minn Kota 65 Auto Pilot trolling motor to the boat I don’t have any juice. I don’t know where to start to fix it.I have a battery voltage analyzer and both battteries tested out fine. However, nothing happens when I push the battery tester on the trolling motor. One of the trolling motor batteries went bad on me recently but I replaced it with an Interstate Deep Cycle trolling motor battery. I think it must either be a connection or a fuse problem. The depth finder on the bow works fine & is connected to the same batteries. I have a Guest Model 2620 battery charger that I use to charge the batteries. Any help is appreciated especially since I am very mechanically challenged. Thanks guys.

Did it used to work and just quit?

Do you have 24 volts at the plug?

What type of fuse system do you have?

Hey Jon. Thanks for the reply. The trolling motor was working previously but it would wear down quickly. 1 of the trolling motor batteries had some corrosion on top of it so I had it tested and replaced it with a new one. It is a 24 volt system. Unsure of type of fuse system.

Pretty sure the C-liners have an in-line fuse system. So look for the fuse on the pos line from the battery. It should just pull apart to reveal the fuse.

If you have a volt meter, check for voltage at the plug. I’m assuming you have a 2 wire system from the battery. (Meaning the crossover is at the battery rather than the plug. ) If you have a 4 wire system, there should be 2 fuses, one on each positive line. In most 4-wire systems the crossover is in the plug. If you have 24 volts at the plug receptacle, but the motor is still not getting juice, take the plug apart and make sure the cross over tab is in place correctly. Sometimes they come apart in there.

Worst case is that the circuit board is bad.Mine was 18mos old when it went out.

Like they said, check for 24 at the plug. If there is, its probably nothing you can handle. If there isn’t make sure you’re corrosion free at the battery recepticles. Its more than likely you’re fuse which should be inline. You may have a corroded plug too.

I had the inline old glass fuses in my Alumacraft when I bought it and had problems. Replaced them with inline auto reset fuses and they work great. Not that much $$. While you are checking things out, it might be a good idea to replace with these.
