Short hits mean that the fish attempted to eat but was somehow prevented. Usually I believe this is our fault, because that fish did its best job to eat. Lighter line and lighter bait, I believe, is the first step in eliminating short hits. Light line or smaller diameter line makes it easier for the eyes to enhale your bait and the water around it. The heavier the line or larger the line diameter the more resistance, which creates difficulty for eyes to suck in the bait. I use stingers when all else fails, but don’t seem to have to use very much anymore. Just my two-cents worth.
