Have you tried out theNUCKLE BALL JIG yet? If not you are missing out big time, what is unique about this jig is that it makes your minnow stand up like it is feeding off the bottom. (Check out the attachment above) I had great success with them on my recent trip to the Rainy River, I used the glow in the dark jigs which really stand out in stained or dirty water. Best of all you can order them right here in the EFN OUTLET STORE Give them a try you won’t be sorry!

Steve, I’ve been using that jig for years… what I like best about it is that it hangs “straight” and in a horz. position… when suspended verticle… and for pulling & swimming tails… that is a huge deal. This way your bait is swimming horz. and a to a fish, looks much more natural… when you pause the forward motion, the baith hangs in a natural position at rest too. Drop to the bottom… and the tail is lifted up… ready to be picked up by the fish. This keeps your offering out of the slime and rock-cracks. The head down / hook up stance is much better for sand-grass and stick-ups also… the head does not fall over and hang up as do conventional heads. Gotta LOVE that!
When you do hang up… the round head pivots and releases because there is no hook eye to cath on… also… no weeds to gather there either. There is nothing to catch weeds on… only a knot ties to a smooth surface (not a hook eye). Cool jig head for weeds and rocks! You are on to something good using these…

    Steve,
I used them last spring on the river and there was no question they out-produced any other jig in my box. I happened to give them another go this weekend, sauger and eyes on pool 4 and pike on Menomin. I am really impressed with the black ones.
see ya on the water, Don

Thanks for the report Steve. The photo is worth a million words. I really like the way the jig holds up the bait off the bottom and with being able to drag the jig and the bait staying upward instead of having to continuely jig it to attrack fish has sold me. In fact it has me so sold that I’ve joined their Fin-Tech Tackle Pro-Staff. Great job Steve and great jig=more fish in the boat!!! Here is their website.

And you are so right they are sold in the EFN Store.

I just used them for the first time today, and on a tough bite day I did quite well. Used 3-4″ turbo tail plastics, and ring worms. Did well with both. I believe I will not be without these jigs again. The fish here were hanging right on the bottom, which made the Nuckle ball jigs perfect. Just drug them through the fish and pulled up the takers!

I bummed a couple of those jigs off Mike Little and they worked pretty darn good. Although I’m not sure if they’re the knuckleball’s or not… they’re the ones with the flat sides…? Zonars? Anyway… they hooked real good and fished a super doo real well on sand.

    I’d try them again.

I was on the river yesterday at Everts Resort… I fished a quick & freindly tournament with the EFN Media & Pro-Staff who were there.
The only fish taken in our boat was on the Nuckle Ball Jig. It was dressed with a Lemon/Lime Super Do (from the New Do’s Kit)… this jig worked for me!
We were in close to the rip-rap on the lock side… I got the fish on the drop in 8 feet of water…. This walleye hit the jig hard…. wham-wham-wham, I remarked to Smitty as he watched my rod-tip, “Gees… how many times is this fish going to hit this lure”. It was just smacking/attacking the bait…. only a 14 ” walleye.
It was too short to win the money/pot. “Hawg” took the honors…. Good job there “Hawg” !

Yeah.. thats what Ive been doing with them too… though like James.. Ive been using the zonars.. they are the nuckleballs meant for dubuque rigs… but they work great with a ringworm.. Ive not tried a super doo… but I just drag them over the bottom.. and on a tough bite they seem to get the job done….. easy to fish…. gotta love it….

When you guys talk about dragging, are you still pretty much vertical or are you letting it drag back aways behind the boat? Are you dragging just off the bottom or are you feeling the bottom during your presentation?

dont know about what others do…. BUT….
    when I say dragging.. I MEAN DRAGGING!!….
I use a heavy head.. and that jig is pulling right across the bottom and those fish just slurp them right up, righ off the bottom… that why these nuckleball jigs are good for that they hold that ring worm right up in the fishes face… (or whatever else your using.. dont HAVE to be ring worms!, but they have worked great for me!)… I caught a couple of fish on this tactic today too… there are some days when it REALLY gets it done… and on other days its less effective…. but Ive stuck with it pretty good this fall and its produced fish EVERY time Ive done it…… and KEEPERS too…. and that aint bad!!!

After reading all the info on the Nuckle Ball Jig and Kalin 5″ tails I ordered some from the EFN store. I got my first chance to use them Saturday at Red Wing and they work. All of our keeper fish except one were caught on this set-up. Jigs and minnnows caught the smaller fish, but the plastics put the bigger fish in the boat. The walleye just inhaled the bait as it was sitting on the bottom. Snap jig, let it sit and wham fish on. They turned a slow day in to a very good one for my partner and I. Thanks for the great info.

I received my shipment of Nuckleball jigs on Friday in time to try them out in Saturdays Tournament and liked the way they worked with live bait. Now I can’t wait to be able to use them with plastics. It sounds like the perfect jig for plastics from what everyone is saying. This jig should be able to fill in the gap of what type of jig to use for plastics on the river and lakes very well with its ability to keep the bait/plastic up where the fish can see it and also is much more snag free in rocks and weeds. Try em, you’ll like em!

I had the pleasure of going out on Sunday with Richard Smith aka (Smitty). We hit pool 4 and tried some jiging, trolling, and 3 way rigs. Didn’t have a lot of luck untill I tied on a Glow Knuckel Ball jig with one of the new super doo’s chartreause color. The glow jig tipped with the doo is what it took to put a couple of eaters in the livewell.Just casted out on the sand and a slow crawl back to the boat dragging the bottom did the trick. Hi anglers, its about time I give my two cents worth on this jig. This jig is outstanding, the quality of these jigs can’t be beat. I highly recomend this jigs, if you want to see the results check out the Rock River forum and check out all my attachments. Every walleye was caught on the Zone-R or nuckle ball. I can’t say enough, give it a try and hold on to your rod. THANK YOU Mike Huppert for a great job well done. BOLA

PS. With all the jig talk lately I thought we should bring this forum alive again, you can feel spring coming guys and this is the jig for spring river fishing(Zone-R 3/8oz green/glow with a stinger hook. Can’t beat it. check this jigs out right here on the EFN Outlet Store or go

Ok, rookie question here. Do you cast the jig out, and slowly jump retrieve the jig back?? When and where do you use this technique??

Hi Jami, great question, this jig can be work any way you want to use it. I personally use it for vertical jigging, unless I’m fishing for smallies then I fish it just like you said. You also can go to http://www.fin-techco.com and click on fishing tips. Mike Huppert the jig pressenter has those questions covered on his web-site. Thank you for Jami and check out the web-site.
