    Hey Guys,

I’ve got a question. Is there a carb cleaner that I can put into the gas that will help my 1999 Merc 115 outboard? Is it safe to put the regular carb cleaner in the gas….or is there a marine grade. I belive the seals on the outboards are differnt that seals on autos and am a little afraid of burning them out, but I’m not sure if this is true. Does anyone have any sugestions? I’m just looking for beter starting performance and I think the carbs may be gummed up a little, causing hard starts.

    Any thoughts are welcome, thanks

    seafoam is great !!!

OMC has a cleaner specificly for cleaning out crud from old gas left in the carb and bowl….I don’t remember the name of it but it works even better than the seafoam. I bought a boat and motor package several years ago and the motor had the original gas in it and the 25 merc would barely run. I dumped the gas, added the OMC product and with in two tanks she ran like a champ…I noticed a big difference just after 1/2 tank thru and it only got better..

I agree with seafoam my 50 hp merc 2stroke wasn’t idling good at all and one can a seafoam with a tank of gas took it on the river for a 2 hour run and it purrs at an idle now

another vote for seafoam, I also find that “cheap” oil makes my motor run rougher, I think I’m personally goin got run Amsoil for a bit, so far my motor seems to like this better than anything.

I ran STA-BIL for years in everything from weed wacker to car…I seem to have problems with primer bulbs getting hard (don’t know if it was from the stabil or not). But since switching to Sea Foam 5 years ago…haven’t had any problems.

I keep extra cans around. I goes in every gas can I have (5) and at least 4 times a year in the boat/cars/trucks.
