Does anyone have a pattern for a fishing rod rack? I would like to make an Oak rack to store my rods in over the winter.

    12-15 rods would be nice.

Enclosed? Display? Stationary? One sided slots? Two sided slots? Swivel? You can do any one of these designs for your stated quantity. Pick one and I’ll see what I can send your way!

A while ago, I built one for my parents similiar to the ones Cabela’s has now. Works pretty well. I just built it from looking at the pictures, never actually drew up plans. If you want more details, I can try to help.

The one I have in mind is like the one that Cabelas has. The bottom has an angled piece of wood and the rods lean against the top piece. You put rods on both sides. I was also wondering if I could make one from just looking at the picture in the catalog and what the angle would be on the bottom piece. Guess one could play around until it worked. Shouldn’t be that hard. If someone had a pattern, it would be alot easier.

Unfortunately, I dont have any plans, but I will give you the details that I remember….
That angled piece needs to be fairly steep. I think I used 60 degrees from vertical for mine. The piece where they lean up against was about 30″ from the angled piece. As far as the spacing of the notches goes, that will depend on what type of rods/reels you have. Just lay them out on the floor so the blanks are parallel and measure. I think I used 4″ on center for mine if I remember right. Hope this helps.

The method I use is the foam and plastic Berkley clip ins…they hold like five rods. I screwed them into the wall of my garage, between the studs, and it hides my rods out of the way, and I can line up quite a number of them…

I also use the Berkley ones. I built a shelf 4×8 and attatched it to the ceiling.
I keep my otter sled, ice auger, buckets, heater, ect on the shelf and I attatched the
Berkley rod holders under the shelf. I also nailed on a thin 1/4 inch piece of plywood
on a small section that I use to store my tipups. I find my rods don’t get as dusty
as they used to when I had them on the wall. Our garage is finished off and
therefore couldn’t utilize the stud space. I also use an elastic bungee cord
on the rod rack just to make sure they can’t fall.

Thanks to everyone for the input. Now all I have to do is find the time to work on this project. Won’t be long and I will be making the fall trips up to pool 4. I also got some ideas by looking at Cabela’s online. They have a alot more racks that they show in the catalog.
