Does anyone have any experience with the Navionics map chips (MMC Multi Media Card) for the new lowrance units? I have just purchased the “area 5” chip for the lowrance unit. It has contour maps for all of the big lakes in MN, WI, and IA. I have not tried it out yet. I will be on Mille Lacs this wekeend with it and will report back the detail and the overall satisfaction with it.

Anyone heard any feedback on these chips and how useful they are. I am looking forward to the handiness of having the ability to drop icons and waypoints and see how they relate to the map.

    Well see.

I’ve heard both good and bad things about the chips. First thing, never ever, ever, ever try and read the card on an MMC reader attached to a PC. It wipes the card. Navionics will “burn” you a chip one time, then they charge each time subsequently. That is the extent of my knowledge on the cards. Let us know if the detail is in line with your sonar….

    Thanks!!

I just picked up the #10 IA+MN and the #6 MO+AR+OK+KS+NE chips. We went to fish Mark Twain Lake in Missouri, the map was awsome! The lake was at 612ft, had came up 12ft in 1 week, the fishing was good, the catching was bad. The map was right on the money as far as the contours and depth. I found out you can use 2 MMC chips and split the screen with 2 maps. Lowrance map on one side and the Navionics Hot Map on the other side, gives you the best of both worlds.
