This fall, I plan on taking my motor in for a good, solid all around tune up.
I have the 225 EFI, so I want to take her to a place, who has a good mechanic that knows how to properly tune these motors.
Any good recommendations???

Since your motor is an EFI, the only “tuning” that can be done is replacement of the spark plugs and lower unit oil change. The service facility might do a fuel injection service which consists of running some cleaner through the system. If you are somewhat mechanically inclined, you can do all of this yourself.

I hear what you are saying about the injectors. But that is where I still want a good “inspection” done on them, to make sure all is running the way they are suppose to run.
Being that the motor is a 96, I would hate to have a “weak” injector, not knowing it and have it run lean to burn it up……..
So, with that said, looking of a “guru” to give her a good once over, making sure all is perfect.
I have heard good things about Supreme Marine in Minneapolis off 94.
I take my Merc to Erickson Marine in Hastings whenever it needs something that I can’t handle, and they have always done me right. Even though I didn’t buy it there.
Thanks Greg.
Supreme Marine is not an option. They did the original motor swap with the previous owner and didn’t do things right………Not an option………
I know these places aren’t really in the metro, but LaCannes in Faribault and Drantel’s in St. Peter have worked on my mercs and they know what they are doing with good service.
eddie lybeck in isle, lybeck’s marine. he has done work on my sea ray mercruiser and put the smart gages in my pro-v. i was having problems with my 225 opti, only getting 5100rpm’s with a 19p tempest. he found the problem, #1 coil wire wasn’t hooked up. it must have came from the factory that way, i only got 5000rpm’s with the original 21p lazor II. for what it’s worth, tell him that tom fellegy told you to give him a call………..tom f
Thanks Tom.
That is the type of “GURU” I’m looking for!!! Guess I’ll have to make a road trip.
try West End Sports in Red Wing. 651 388 6591. They replaced a mid-housing for me last year and did a great job. I bought my boat from them also.
I agree with the LaCannes suggestion. I know people from all around the state that only let LaCannes touch their motor. That is a big reason I signed on with them. If you are not happy for any reason with anything, Destry or Nick will make it right no matter what they have to do.

I’ll second LaCannes. Been taking my boat there for the last 4 years when something needs to be taken care of. Which isn’t to often thank god!
Destry will take good care of you
Ok, I’ll get on the LaCannes bandwagon too.
Call them up. Talk over what you want done. If they can’t do it, they will just tell ya that. No BS. If they can, they will. Period.
It’s a 50-60 minute drive from the metro. Drop off the rig and get back on the road headed south. 10 more minutes and you are at the front door to Cabelas! One more reason to make the trip!

Already talked to Destry. They sound like they know what they are doing!
