Whiplash line

Just thought I would throw this out – Gander is clearing out this line. I know it isn’t very popular around here, but the reports I have read on other boards indicate it is comparable to PowerPro. It may not be quite as abrasion resistent. I am going to try a pole spooled with 30/6 this week for my Dipsy rod on Lake Michigan.

I noticed last fall that Berkley was going to stop producing Whiplash line in 50# test and less. You can get 300 yards of the 30#/6 and the 20#/4 for about $15.00. I used it last fall and this spring and summer for trolling and it seems to work very well. It may not be as abrasion resistant as Powerpro or Spiderwire (just what I have heard, I have not used them before) but the price is right for a casual angler who wants to emulate the trolling performance of the more expensive superlines. It would be interesting to put Whiplash and Spiderline in a blind, side by side comparison in someone’s boat to see if, at the end of the day, you could tell which was which. I believe that Whiplash is made from Dyneema and Spiderwire is made from Spectra (I’m not absolutly sure of this).

Wanted to follow up on my post. Had a chance to use it last week on Lake Michigan. I had a king on for about 10 min, and it proceeded to take a very long run and snap my line like it was sewing thread. Got revenge later, though. I ended up (after a very long battle) landing a 17# king while trolling the harbor for the incoming kings. Heard of several fish near 30# being caught that week. I wouldn’t even begin to understand how they can land those while shore fishing.
