MinnKota PD with Universal Sonar

I am looking at the MinnKota bow-mount with universal sonar and I am wondering if the power for the locator comes through the trolling motor or if it needs to be connected to the battery separately? If the locator needs to be directly connected to the battery can I connect it to 1 battery of my 24V system or is it better to have a different battery (I am concerned about interference and draining one battery faster than the other)? If the latter is true should I go with a 12V motor and attach the locator to the other battery?

The motor does not supply power for the unit, you need to fuse it to a battery in the boat (3 amp). You can use one of the trolling batterys but you would be better off using the main battery through the power switch. Just like your main graph on your dash. That way you can cut power when not in use, just to save you maybe that one time you leave it on and drain the battery. Then you do not have to worry about what battery to hook it to in a 24v system. If for some way you do connect it to the trolling batterys just use one of them and swap it every year between batterys to save wear on just one of them.

As stated, the power comes from a separate battery supply. Do not use the same battery that you use for the trolling motor. You will get interference. Run it off of your cranking battery or better yet use a separate battery for your electronics if possible.
