I just recently purchased my first bigger boat. Prior to this I had a 14 foot deep V bench seat row boat model. Now I have an Alumacraft Trophy 175. By the way, Thanks to everybody for there previous help in guiding me to my boat purchase decision.
Anyhows, I purchased a Lowrance LMS332. Any input regarding the installation of this Unit would be truly welcome. I never did this before so I even may need the simple basic info as well. I have a transom mount transducer. How do you attach this??? Does it need backup support inside the boat ie: a block of wood or aluminum or just screw it to the transom? Wire routing, location and fixing or attaching ideas? Mount the display to the dash or do you guys recommend ram mounts? Where did you put your GPS puck?
Thanks Again, this sight is the greatest everyone is so friendly and helpful !!

Satch: Installing those 332C’s has been a topic of a couple of recent threads. These mostly deal with running wire and powering up the puck.

    Wade’s checklist

    Lip Ripper’s thread (wiring)

    LMS 332C wiring thread

Regarding transducer placement: this is one of the most important things you will do. Choose the location carefully; there are some good diagrams in the manual. I simply mounted mine on the exterior of the transom with no extra support on the inside. Get some good marine grade silicone sealant to plug the screw holes good and tight.

I mounted my unit on the dash because I was out of spending $$ after the unit and the map chip and all the wiring supplies. As soon as the bank account rebounds I plan to transfer to a Ram mount.

My puck is in the very back corner of the boat, on the driver’s side (I have a fishhawk 1750 single console).

I installed my LMS 332C a couple of weeks ago. It took one Saturday to do so. Be patient with the install and everything should go well. You’re going to love this thing once you start putting it to use. If you have any more questions that these threads don’t address, drop another post here or send me a PM.

    Good luck! -BT

    Satch,

    Where you located???

Mounting the transducer to the boat. I suggest buying a plate that mounts directly to your boat. I can not remeber the material this plate is made of, but I would use that in case you ever switch/upgrade/add another unit, you will limit the holes in your boat to two. I would then use silicone when screwing this board in. I would then buy a ram mount to mount it at your dash. I was in the same situttion as you a few weeks back. Just take your time and once you get into it, it’s pretty simple. If it is not there is plenty of good minds here @ IDA that can coax you trhough it. It is a great learning experince also.

If you are located around the North cities, let me know I can help. If not if you want to drag your rig to Blaine, I definitley can help you out.

For mounting the transducer on a new boat, the mounting plates are the way to go , especially if you need to adjust the puck. Should be able to pick one up at any good marine dealer, Cabela’s has them for sure.

Here is how I set up mine.

I didn’t use the mountine plates (I didn’t know the exsited ) Just read the directions for the wiring and it should be no problem!
I mounted my puck on the very back side on the passenger side, but now that I think about it I have a tiller so I should have put it on the other side. I usually dock facing the dock.
I have the same sonar and love it. I haven’t had to much time to play with it but their website have a emulator you can download and it does eveything the real one does. Good way to practice!
    Goodluck!

Thanks for all your input and help. Too bad I live too far away or I would have taken you up on the offers for help. Live in SE Wis, near Lake Winnebago and the Horicon Marsh, probrably a 5 hr ride to the Citys Area.
I didn’t know those brackets existed. I also live far away from a Cabelas, 3hrs to Prarie du Chien…since they closed the Herters/Cabelas store in BeaverDam. Was at a nearby Gander Mountain but they had very little to offer. I did however find a Ram Mount at a neaby Mills Fleet Farm.
There is a Scheels store not too far away wonder if they may have those brackets?
Again thanks for all your help!

    Satch,

They are like a hard solid palstic bracket. Mine looks just like Firemans. The only thing that is different than Firemans is, that my brackets are mounted more horizontal. The long portion of my bracket follows the bottom of my transom. The thing I like about mounting it this way I have like 4 things mounted to one board/bracket. I have 2 sonars and 2 speedometers. Just something to think about if you add on more stuff. Again I like drilling the least amount of holes in my boat. This way I have 4 things attached but only 2 holes in my boat rather than 8 .

Darn Sliderfishin ….. we will have to look for another Guy to share beverages with, tell stories and oh yeah do something productive too ..
