I’ve been doing some searching online for rain gear…….the reason why I’ve been searching online instead of Gander or Cabelas is because I wanted to look different than everyone else out there that have the same basic 5 colors.

Does anyone know of a place that will do custom color raingear??
If not, then I want to buy some at Gander soon, since they are on clearance right now. Only problem with that is all the sizes are 2xx and up. So if anyone notices a small or medium size at their local Gander please let me know.

It doesn’t matter what you look like when it’s raining as long as you are dry. Do you want to look different and be wet or look like everyone else and stay dry? Rain gear isn’t a place where you want to make a fashion statement. Stick with utility. If I were you I’d play the percentages and go with something that’s proven even if it’s green, red, blue, black, or camo. Camo could be your fashion statement. Then you can talk one of the guys into a river duck hunting excursion in the fall to get fully immersed in the outdoor sports.

I agree with that …there is nothing more miserable than being wet while fishing…except being wet and cold….well wet, cold and hungry is probably the ultimate worst case scenario.

I think you mentioned you get a discount at Gander…..I looked at their stuff and it is good but I don’t think you will find better rain gear than Cabela Guidewear. Water proof and wind proof…..I won’t ever buy anything else after having it.

I’ll take wet, cold and hungry, and have to go to the bathroom really, really bad.

yeah her rain gear that she wants is the kind that keeps her out of the boat so she can’t land that big 6 pounder. or she will want some neon pink color that you could use as a light on the front of the boat. ah aha h j/k NK, hope you find what you are looking for

Personally I don’t care what raingear a woman is wearinmg if fishing with me as enjoying fishing and catching some fish and staying dry when its raining is much more important. Besides you will look good in any rain gear you are wearing. [gee, did I say that?]

    Thanks, Bill

ps. Cabelas Guidewear is the ”best” there is. But I also have some Gander Moutain stuff too for warmer weather.

    Krista,

Check out Midwest Mountaineering, they carry ( or used to carry ) lots of different rain gear that other stores do not.

The link below must be a small sampling of what they have. They also used to have a clearance area above the store.

The Marmot jacket is “cute”, could be really hot with the white pants on the second page.

    Thanks FishingScout

I agree with you………the white pants are pretty stylin, the jacket isnt quite the color I was going for, but I think it would do just fine.

Should I purchase???………or should I stick with something at Cabelas or Gander??

    NKrista88,

Gander Mountain Rochester as of last week had numerous rainsuits (h2o Tech line) in the S and M range in all of their colors range. You could have your local store call down and have them brought up from the Roch location. Otherwise my mother is pretty well known for her sewing ability and could conjure up any color arrangement you desired. My family is only a HSJ away from you (Lino Lakes) I hate to admit it but she had once made me a nice navy blue rainsuit with a hot flourescent pink liner as a joke. Never wore that particular one but have used others she’s made. Only problem is if you go with her, plan to have your ear chewed off with her stories.

I saw Ace hardware in Rochester had a couple one size fits all, yellow rain suits. Cheap too. 10 bucks or something. If you wanted yellow this is it. I did see that and thought of this post…Just kidding you though.

Same thing here in the St. Cloud area…all Gore-tex is 40-60% off at Gander. I did find one Guide Series Deluxe Gore-tex Parka in XLT that I snatched up for $150 in Blue/Black which I thought was a pretting good deal since I was going to pull the trigger last summer when they were $229. I did see a lot of the H20 line available in some small/medium and large sizes in a wide variety of colors. I have had really good luck with Gore-tex in the past so that is my reason for sticking with it.

Good luck in your search…you have a lot of options…don’t rule out taking a look at bass pro shops either.

Thats the rain gear I have for the warmer months. Haven’t used it yet but it looks like a nice outfit. I have the Cabelas guidewear for the colder months and its sweet. Please let everyone know how you like the new set Chappy.
    Thanks, Bill

I have Helly Hanson bibs/coat for warm weather rain gear. Nice stuff.
Cabela’s Guide wear for cold weather/icefishing. I must say after 5 years of the Guide wear it’s not as waterproof as it was when it was new. A bit disapointed there but I have logged a TON of hours wearing it in that time span.

A friend of mine has a set of Frogg Toggs rain gear that he seems happy with.

I have the same problem with Cabela’s suit after a fewq years. Is there some kind of spray sealant to put on them to help bead the water off. I thought somebody had told me that once when I commented how theirs beaded and mine didn’t.

    Hey guys,

    On the Guideware…

I use 3M’s outdoor fabric protector…This stuf is top notch !! I have several years on my Guideware now and I spray it down at the end of each season and let it hang till cold weather sets in again…She still beads up and keeps me warm and dry !!

Thanks for the tip ! I knew there was some sort of spray on stuff for Gortex but was’nt sure what one to go with. I’ve read that not all water proofing sprays like that are good for Gortex as some clog the poors in the fabric. Still waterproof I guess but defeats the breathability of Gortex.

I’ll try the 3M stuff …… if I can find it.

I know, and that word ”work” always gets in my way of fishing. ALWAYS!
