Hey guys. I have a Lowrance X67C. Sudddenly this year, it seems to be working intermittently. Oddly, it seems as if will only register depths less than 20 ft (appx). It will work fine for a few minutes and then the display slows down to a crawl, becomes cluttered and my depth display number will just continuously flash. You can still see the contour of the bottom somewhat, but it is not as defined as when its working properly and the screen has more clutter on it. If I shut it off and turn it on again, the depth sits at 0 and flashes. The temp is reading just fine as far as I can tell. Then after I move the boat to another depth, it will come back on for a bit and work fine, then go away again. I have turned all other accessories off as well as the boats ignition.

Here is a pic of the screen when the problem is occuring.

You can see the contour changes but the depth reading does not. And the botom reading is very weak and broken.

Here is what it SHOULD look like..

    HELP!…lol

    Thanks guys…

Jim, at first I tough you may have trouble with the sensitivity but upon further reading of your post I wonder if you might have a transducer issue. Is your transducer clear? One other issue may be how you have your power set up but that should have showed up last season if you ran it all last year. I’m not sure what is going on there. Maybe someone else here will have an idea. I would suggest calling Lowrance on Monday: 800-324-1356.

    Wade,

Thanks for your response. The transducer is clear. I checked all of the wires from the unit to the transducer and everything is fine. No cuts or cracks. The unit itself was stored indoors over the winter. Yes, it worked perfectly last fall and nothing has been done or added to the boat since then. Again, the temp is reading fine and is very accurate. I have tried adjusting the sensitiviy while problem is occuring and it does make a difference in the amount of clutter on the screen, but the depth reading still flashes at incorrect depths (from 0 as much as 350 ft….in a 30 ft deep lake..lol) and the chart still goes at a crawling speed.

Thanks again for the info. I will give Lowrance a call tomorrow.

Is there any other electronics near the unit running? radio other flashers? Where are the transducer cords ran? Near other power wires etc? Sounds like electrical interference.

Well, I spoke with Lowrance today and they seem to think that its something with the unit head itself. Just for giggles, I stopped by a lake with it and backed it into the water, just to check it out again. And, you guessed it, it worked fine. . So, I guess I will wait ill I get my darned STARTER FIXED!! and take it out on the water again and see if it acts up again.

I have had no other units running or any other electrical draw happening and the issue was still there.

When it happens again, I’m sure I will post. I will be happy to pass on any info that I get.

    Thanks guys,

    Jim

    I hate when that happens….

At least you didn’t find it working after you replaced it.

Well, I booted the unit up and the transducer IS pinging. So it must be the unit itself or some wiring interference?
