Anyone have or been in this boat with a 75, 90 or 115 Merc 4 stroke. How does it set in the water. Was it backend heavy? Seriously thinking of buying one of these. Brochure for 2005 recommends 25″ transom for all 4 stroke applications only no dealers I’ve talked to have one…they all have 20″ transoms. Most have said they sell that setup regularily with no complaints. The boat is rated for a 150 hp motor. I compared the weight of the 150 2 stroke and it is about 50Lbs heavier than a 115 4 stroke….should be no prob??? right???Also may want to put a kicker on someday if 115 don’t troll slow enough. Anybody have any input? Thanks!

I just bought a 17′ Smoker Craft with a 115 4 stroke Johnson. I was looking between the 90 and 115 but both have the same weight and block. So for $400 upgraded to the 115. It is a little back heavy too me, but after looking at other 17′ with big motors they all look the same in the back. I can back troll at about 2.5mph And if I put a drift sock off the fromt get it down to 1.4mph gps. The 25″ transom from what I know only come on the bigger motors 140hp and up. My friend bought a 19′ with a 140 4 stroke Johnson like mine and he got a 25″.
I love the 4 stroke if I did not need to go 45mph I would have got a 75hp so I could troll down more, Or add a kicker.
April 3, 2005 at 5:07 pm #354501I have two fishing friends that have them. one I believe has a 125 Johnson 4-stroke and the other has a 115 2-stroke. They both have 9.9 four stroke kickers neither has any problems. I still have an 87 trophy 170 with a 90 and a 9.9 four stroke, can’t upgrade for a few years kids starting college. The 175 will be my next boat also, you will love it.

April 3, 2005 at 6:11 pm #354511I take delivery of my Alumacraft Trophy 175 on tuesday, can’t wait! It is a 2002 with a 115 Yamaha 4-stroke, T-8 kicker, and a 20″ transom. I asked my dealer about the transoms and he said most of these boats have 20″ transoms and they haven’t heard of any problems. Nice boats!
