I see some boat mfr’s recommending the 25 inch transom for 4 stroke applications. On several of the outboard mfr’s websites they used a LOWE boat with a 20″ transom in some of there performance tests.
Anyone have a larger 4 stroke motor on a 20″ transom and if so do you have any problems, or do you think it sits too low in the water ?
I’m buying an 85″ beam boat, 20″ transom, with a 115 4 stroke. Boat is mfr rated to 125 HP. Matter in fact the outboards website states the 75, 90 and 115 HP 4 strokes all weigh the same. Boat seemed ok when we had it in the water….Sort of doulble checking if I may run into trouble. Picture attached

If you have the option, I would get the deeper transom with a 4 stroke. With a full tank of gas, my 90HP Suzuki, my Vector trolling motor, cranking battery, a bucket of minnows, myself, and my good buddy Tom Gursky all standing in the back of my boat, the water line sits at the level of my transom scuppers. That said, this has not caused me any problems and there are a lof of 20″ transom hulls with 4 strokes on them.

I have a 115 Yamaha 4-Stroke on the back of a 20″ Transom, 92″ Beam, Lund Angler 1700SS. Boat is rated for 140 HP. I don’t know what the manufacturers are saying but I have had this one in all types of water and am very happy with all around performance. I think many of the new Lund Explorer owners out there could vouch for their rides as well as most of the Explorers are also 20″ Transom and I have seen an aweful lot of 4 strokes on the backs of the Explorers.

    Hope this helps!
