Tiller Extension Handles

I just mounted my new T8 on my Crestliner 1750 Sportfish. Although I haven’t had it on the water yet for break-in, I already know I’m not going to be comfortable in a seat up on the rear deck. Since I’m pretty short (5’2″) to operate, I’m going to need an extension handle. I’ve been looking at several and not sure what to try. Minn Kota makes an 18″ and 30″ model. Will these connect to a T8 tiller as well? I’ve also looked a a couple of models in the Cabelas catalog. There is the Cabelas brand which has a straight model measuring 30″ and a universal model which has a knuckle joint which measures 34 1/2″-50″. They also have HelmsMate’s which are also telescopic 36″-50″, one straight and the other with a U-Joint.

I think the knuckle joint is going to work better for me since my arms are pretty short too, and it looks like I can turn without extending way the heck outside the boat. Where I’ll want to set to be comfortable looks like I’ll need a handle length somewhere in the the mid 20’s”. Can I shorten any of these models to fit my needs? I’d appreciate any advise.

Being the last one to know when it’s raining presents many problems – but we shall over come!

Hey Gramps my buddy just made a cool one from the end of his old landing net. Of course he’s a handyman engineer type.

I would get one with a knuckle. They run about $40 and they do extend out as well…….

I personaly use a minn-kota 30″ extention. The guy I bought my boat from made one out of 1 1/2″ pvc and a clamp on rubber coupling. seemed to work ok.
