From what I saw during my search, the 3500 is a very nice unit. The antenna is external on all lowrance units. These units use SD or MMC memory cards. I use an SD card in my handheld Lowrance and it works fine. These are available at every store that sells computer supplies.

The 3500 will be my next purchase.

teamcrappie, The Globalmap 3500C is a great unit in my opinion. We carry the standard package which comes with the external GPS antenna, power cable, mount, and the unit of course. I imagine most every store has the same package. The unit includes a basemap, but these are very basic, as all basemaps are. I highly recommend the Navionics Premium maps. The Premium North includes Iowa, Minnesota, Michigan, and Wisconsin on one chip (a few thousand lakes). The Premium maps include detail down to one foot contours on select lakes. For Missouri, you would need the Hotmaps Premium South, or you may be able to get by with the Hotmaps Gold for a little less money, depending on what lakes you fish. The nice thing about the Premium chip is that it does also include all the river data for each region, while the Gold is limited. If you have any other questions, feel free to shoot me an email. Be glad to help.
