Has anyone used one of these units before . Would like to mount on the bow but was wondering if anyone had any experience with one of these. Would be used mainly for walleye or would something like the lowrance 20C combo be a bettter unit. Thanks in advance for any feedback.

I think Derek Johnston is using one. He’ll probably pipe in with a comment on it. When I can afford it, I’m going to have one on my boat too.

I have used one for about 6 years. I also have two Lowrance units,X70A and X91….I think they are all good units. I do prefer the Vex. with it’s dual frequencies. I have it back by my kicker so I use it most of the time when trolling. It will pick out fish where the other two will not.

I’ve heard people swear up and down these are the best, spendy, for few options, but the quality of the graph they said is a good a paper graphs, excelent. I kick myself for not jumping on the deal wade had last year.

The Edge is a very good unit but I’m not sure how easy it is to run on the bow with the dual transducers. Derek???

I’ve been running the Edge for 4 seasons. It’s a great unit. When it came out there was no doubt it was “The Best” unit on the market. No matter how much money you wanted to spend there was nothing better out there. It still is the only unit running simultaneous transducers with overlapping cones, with split screen display allowing you to see both transducers at the same time. A very unique concept.

However, a lot has changed over the last 4 years. The competition has put out some great units. Color, GPS integration and chip technology have come a long way and the prices on these units have been falling every year. The Edge remains unchanged since it’s introduction. The unit is unchanged and the price is the same as it was 4 years ago. Looking at what’s on the market today, it would be hard to drop $699 on another Edge. Now if I could get one of $399, I’d put one on the bow and buy one to sit on the shelf until I got a new boat!

Wade, yes the Edge has an adaptor bracket that hold both transducers for a bow mount application. Keep in mind you will have 2 wires coming up the trolling motor shaft. Just one more wire to get pinched…….

I will be adding an Edge2 to my bow this year. My tourney partner ran one from his bow last year and its just like with any other trolling motor mount locator. Keep the wires tapped together and pay attention when putting in and pulling up your motor. Comparing the Edge2 to anything else is like apples and oranges. You get what you pay for in electronics.

This is my 4th season with the Edge2 it is by far the best locator out their in my opinion. I have it in the back of the boat for trolling I have a X-70 on the bow. The x-70 is a good depth finder and thats it. The edge shows fish that the x-70 does not. I have run side by side with other high end units like 15mt ? It was superior. I like it so well that I bought one for the bow last week. I now have one on the bow and transom. Plus Vexilar’s customer service is second to none.

With my style of fishing, I’ve never been much on electronics… Until, I was in a buddies rig with the transducers epoxed to the inside of his aluminum boat. At 40 mph he was reading the bottom like we were darn near sitting still. I’ve been using mine for 3 seasons and realy like it.

That was my concern. But from Derek’s post it sound like it can be done okay. I’ve never seen one set up that way. Jon, I also agree, I think the price needs to fall in line with the other manufacturers. It’s a great unit and absolutely a one of a kind but the price makes it tough for some folks to afford it.

Derek, That is a great article you wrote about the Edge. I’m sure that’ll help some folks make their electronics decision this season. Nice job!
