Hey Fellas, My name is Sam, I live in Lakeville MN, I’m new to the site but I’m already impressed with the level of knowlege that is displayed on this site so I wanted to run this by ya.

I’m in the market for an onboard charger for my Dad for his birthday next month. His Cresliner has two batteries, 1 cranking, and 1 12v for the troling motor. Do you have any recomendations on brand, output capacity for me? any advise would be helpfull.

    Thanks

Welcome to IDA . Does your pop mainly fish weekends? If so he will love a moderate aggressive Minn-kota 2 bank charger the MK220. See http://www.jollyannsales.com and save on sales tax.

I use a Dual Pro. Great charger and great customer service.

If you decide to go with a Minn-kota or Guest then Wade is your guy.

I would have to say a two bank (10 amp) should do him well. If it was me I would buy a Guest. Guest has a gal named Sue who frequents some of the message boards. She takes care of those with problems. Not that their units are problem prone by no means, but if there is trouble their customer service is second to none. Cabelas is another great place to shop. Their customer service is also excellent. I hate to go against the grain here, but a walleye magazine tested several brands of on-board chargers a couple years back, and Minn Kota was one of the worst.

    Welcome to the site Sam,
Back to Derek’s question. All depending on the recovery time that he needs to recharge his battery. The Guest 2613 has a 10 to 12 hr.recovery time where the 2620 has a 5 to 6 hr.recovery time. Also like Derek said, check out Chargers. . Wades, service is second to none.

Guest. I’ve had one in my boat 7-years with no issues.

We get a lot of happy customers with both the Guest and Minn Kota charges. There is a nice rebate on the Minn Kota chargers right now. I had not heard of the negative report that was mentioned above but I have not heard any bad reports from our customers. Good luck!
