Hi all. I just sold a friend a Minkota All Terrain 65 lb 12/24 volt trolling motor that came on a boat that I bought. This motor has a switch on the foot pedal with positions for 12v/on-off/24v. I promised my friend that I would help him mount this on his rig. For simplicity reasons I would like to mount this motor straight 24 volts. The power cable has three wires, unsure of the colors right now. If anyone can advise me how to wire this, their help would be appreciated. Thanks- Rob

SInce it has the 3 wires, you must connect all 3 to have the 24v. I had an old 12/24v with 3 wires-black,red,and white. If you hook 2 wires up you have your 12v with all 3 you have 24v. Black was ground to battery 1, red was positive to battery 1, and white was positive to battery 2.

Not true for a motorguide, don’t know about the MinnKota. I have a 12/24 MG and I only connect the 24v and ground, works like a champ.

If you do a search, this came up once before and I scanned the owner’s guide wiring diagram and posted it here in the OG forum. Here, about halfway down the page. Remember that this is a Motorguide, and while I hope they used the same color scheme for MK, I don’t know that for sure.

Here ya go. If you need any help Rob, give me a call. This is a basic set up for a 24v. three wire system. P.S. I did pull this diagram from Gianni’s post.

Ooops. On my 3 wire 12/24v if you didn’t have all 3 hooked up, you only had 12v. Also you had to have the right positive hooked up, or it really didn’t work. This was on an old Evinrude trolling motor. Sorry if I confused anyone
