I have a 140 h.p. suzuki 4 stroke on a 1800 Fisherman and was wondering if anyone thinks these trolling plates will slow my troll down to 1 -1 1/2 mph range and if so will they hold up for any length of time? Or should I look for A KICKER? Any insight please reply. Thanks Jeff

Jeff I don’t know about the 140 hp but I have a happy troller plate on a 90 hp suzuki 4 stroke and it slows me down to 1 mph. If you are going to get one go with the happy troller. Steering is a big problem when you have wind because the plate won’t let you go very fast to correct I would not get a plastic one. Just my two cents worth.Jim

Thanks Jim , Right now I can’t afford a kicker 9.9 h.p. 4 stroke so I’ll most likely get what you suggested. My problem is trolling cranks to fast at times. And i use the elec. motor for rigs and jigs. Anyways thanks , Jeff

Troll plates are the bomb!! I have a troll plate on my 75 honda and I can hold my speed at .1mph. In fact you will probably not even want a kicker.

I have an 18′ nitro w/150 2 stroke merc … will only troll down to about 4.8 mph… yep, I bought the wrong boat, but I really can’t afford to trade…. I’ve tried pulling three drift socks, but lose lots of steering control and still only get down to 2+ mph ….. does anyone have suggestions on a trolling plate for the rig? … I really want to troll for walleye this summer.
    Thanks,
    Barry

How does the happy troller work?

    Is it easy to install?

Will it affect my overall performance when I’m not using it?

It sounds like it may be better than dragging a drift bag around.

Here is a link to the Cabela’s description: Happy Troller

Never put it on my boat, so I can’t comment on how it works.
