Has anyone seen these side by side? I am interested in a Garmin 178 or an Eagle FishElite 480 (or Lowrance equivalent). This is all that I know, but I don’t know what it means to me.

    The Eagle unit is 480 x 480 – Garmin 320 x 320
The Eagle unit can display 16 shades of grey – Garmin 10

    Thanks,
    Dan

Dan, the 480×480 and 320×320 is the pixel count. Higher pixel count means higher resolution, given that the size of the screen remains constant. The Eagle has a slightly better resolution.

Greyscale shades refer to how many shades of grey are available on the unit, from very light to very dark. This is important for target separation. I don’t know that 10 versus 16 makes a whole lot of difference. Both should be fairly equal in that sense. Afterall, how many shades of grey can we differentiate with the human eye while trying to drive a boat and cast a lure in front of a fish?
