I’m in the market for a new gas auger, the used one i bought doesn’t cut worth a dang, even with new blades not resharpened ones,so my question is a new jiffy stealth 10 or a new strikemaster 224 10 inch? i found a stikemaster 224 10 but i thought they were having problems? Thanks

was raised up around jiffy’s. always had good luck, but for pure speed and power the strikemasters, IMO, wil beat out jiffy anyday

Does the one you have (used one) run good? Is it possible the bit is just bent?

If it is, I have three bits, all for clockwise rotation (looking down from the top). Would be happy to part with one of the 8″ ones. All seem to cut fine for me. PM me if interested.

i noticed you’re questioning 10 inch augers…….One thing people don’t take in consideration is how much extra ice a ten inch has to cut. By doing a few simple computations you can find that a ten inch auger roughly cuts 314 square inches of ice compared to an 8 inch cutting 200. Thats a big difference people often fail to see. I run an 8 inch strikemaster, but I would never recommend a 10 inch because I’ve never seen one perform to my expectations of an ice auger.

i read on another post somewhere that the 224 10 inch does not cut that well. i have no personal experience with it though. Here is the link for the other posting on the 224 10 inch web page

I would stay away from the 224 10″. They don’t cut all the way through the ice I believe due to the blade pitch. The tried and true Stikemaster Laser Mag or the Jiffy Stealth will treat you well.

I couldnt agree more on a 10″ versus 8″, I went from the bigger auger down to the 8″ auger and my preformance went way up. The 10″ strikmaster ultramag with the triple blade also had problems with icing up when it got below 10 degrees, Strikemaster admitted as much and allowed me to trade my auger in for the auger of my choice, I went with the 8″ standard two blade and never have looked back.
