Wierd seems like people just replace blades all the time instead of sharpening them? Why? I bought a blade sharpener a couple years ago, after looking at my auger and the condition of the blades from over the summer, I decided to take and run a new edge over them, with my $5 sharpener, and would you know after 3 quick swipes over the blade, it was razor sharp again, I even cut myself pretty good, it certainly is holding a razor edge again, I really can’t believe it worked so good, any one else have some good results? Or is everyone just buying the $40 blades ?

Where did you get a sharpener for the auger blades. It sounds pretty easy to use. I would like to have one.

I mailed mine to a guy in Michigan.

He sharpens them and mails them back for $10. I’ve tried sharpening them myself – it didn’t work.

I think can’t quite remember, where, Honestly I bought the thing a couple years ago. I’m sure I bought it at either Gander mountain or a local bait shop, though I do not know if they still caryy them.

I found this though CLICK THIS TEXT FOR THE Link

I give those sharpeners out as gifts to family and friends for xmas. I use the sharpener all the time but not for augers. The best knife sharpener that I have found and I am a kitchen manager so I see all types of these things.

What is it called, or what does it look like? Where can I get one? How much do they cost?

this might pertain to this post but i am not sure, I have a hand auger, and I have replaced the original blades on it and now it don’t cut the ice at all. what did i do to it or do I need to get different blades for it again. It does cut the ice but it takes alot of work. the original blades that where on it went to town on the ice and made my holes pretty fast. I was thinking of going to serated (sp?) blades for it. any ideas or suggestions. also it walks around the ice really bad with these blades.

    thanks

You might have them upside down?

I could be wrong but I think the cutting edge on a hand auger is a different angle than a power auger .

On the Jiffys with straight chipper blades you can easily sharpen them by hand with a file or even finish with a stone like a knife. I have been doing this for years.
