I am looking to put a Gps Sounder combo in my boat for next year. I have a Garmin 240 up front and would like to stick with a garmin. What do you guys like and why? What am I paying for?

Well, you are paying for a number of things. In my list of priorites, when I upgrade this winter, I will be paying for color, pixel count and screen size. If you are fishing in 50ft or less, you probably dont need to be concerned about power. For the money, I have decided to go with the new Eagle units. Take a look at some of the ones Wade has posted in this forum.

Garmins are great units, as are Lowrance and Raymarine. I am operating an Eagle purchased in 1996 that still works flawlessly. Would I have been happier if I had bought the equivalent unit in Lowrance or Garmin back then? Probably not. I am upgrading to color and a higher pixel count.

    Good luck,
    Dave

    Drop Shot,

If you want to stick with Garmin take a look at the Garmin GPSMAP 178C . Garmin will also be releasing a comparable greyscale unit soon, the GPSMAP 178 which will run around $400-$500 (we’ll have pricing soon). The 178 and 178C will be the best units for the money in Garmin’s lineup.

The new Eagle Color Fishfinders that Dave noted might be interesting to you as well. Take a look at these or any other units members might note here and if you have any specific questions just post them here and we’ll all try to help you out as best as we can. Thanks, Wade
