I am looking for a graph/gps combo for my uncles sportfish and I need some input on the best model. I am a fan of lowrances, but if anybody has any suggestions about other brands don’t be afraid to speak up. Right now the winner is the Lowrance LMS-480 or -320 but we need some backup research. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

    Hey Tony!

I’ve had the 480 in my boat and (since the bugs been fixed) it’s a very good unit…but if you can manage the extra $’s, you will be much happier with the 330c. I wan’t a believer until I tried both units. With the grey, if you looked real hard…you can see a fish next to a rock/structure…with the color…it stands out like a sore thumb.
The color gps has the same advantage.

Garmin has some color units too, but I’m not framilar with them.

In either case..don’t forget to check with Wade at Jolly Ann Marine before you buy… Once you do…you’ll know why I recommend him.

Tony, check out the Garmin 188. This is my second year running this unit. Check it out at http://www.garmin.com and next time you are on pool 4 I will give you a demo. Don

I’ve got the Humminbird Matrix 67. It provided great service this past year. It isn’t color but there is one available its the 97 I think. Lowrance is a great sponsor of the ABA and has special purchase price for members of the Bass Federation.

I don’t think the brand matters but be sure it is compatible with “gold” format charts. The detail of the latest Navionics charts are outstanding but not compatible with some current models which are non-gold compatible.

    Tony,

The best graph out there is probably the Lowrance LCX-104C . If you’re looking in the price range of the Lowrance LMS 480 , that’s a good unit. I’d also look at the Eagle FishElite 480 which is very similar to the Lowrance LMS 480 for less money. If he does not plan on running Navionics Premium Maps, then also look at the Lowrance LCX-15MT . I would not recommend getting the LMS-320 given the units that are available today.

By the way, BrianK noted the LMS-330C and I personally own this unit. If you’re thinking about color units at a decent price, that’s a great option also. Hope this helps. – Wade

As far as price, I’d say about 600 tops. I want him to totally outfit it with more than one graph (I am using it for guiding on Lake Vermilion and maybe tournaments on pool 4) but he is only going with one and he wants it to be a good one. Oh hey Don Ill have to take you up on that offer next time I see you. Thanks

If it has to be a GPS/finder combo, look at the Raymarine C-70
