I have question on the t8/F8. Can a T8 be ordered with out electric start and power tilt, the reason I ask I would like to sell the 2 stroke 6 and 7.5 that I have, I also use the motor on a duck boat so electric start is not needed. Just a plain jane T 8 is all I need. Or can I get a F 8 with a dual thrust rpop and due close to same w/o the big gear case? It is going on a 17 Mr Pike.

    thanks KLh

I own a T-8 and I just checked Yamaha’s website. T-8 I believe is electric start only. Their “portable” product is the F-8 which is a pull start…..

Also, the T-8 is a 20 inch shaft. Most Duck boats have a 15 inch transom. Just something else to consider.

    The F8 comes 2 models:
F8MSHC – manual trim with manual start 15″ shaft and tiller handle
F8MLHC – manual trim with manual start 20″ shaft and tiller handle

The T8 comes in 6 different models:
    T8ELHC – manual tilt w/ elec. start 20″ shaft & tiller handle
    T8PLHC – Power tilt w/ elec. start 20″ shaft & tiller handle
    T8PLRC – Power tilt w/ elec. start 20″ shaft & Remote control
    T8EXHC – manual tilt w/ elec. start 25″ shaft & tiller handle
    T8PXHC – Power tilt w/ elec. start 25″ shaft & tiller handle
    T8PXRC – Power tilt w/ elec. start 25″ shaft & remote controls

The F8 and the T8 have different gear ratios in the lower unit and have different props but use the same powerhead.

If you are interested in a T8PLHC – I have one that I used for 6 months that I am looking to move this fall.

Hey Ted or anyone else??? What does the remote control unit control????

    Speed??? Direction???

Steve Deezee, what do you have on your kicker??? I’m shopping for a kicker this Winter/ Spring and would love a remote control that runs both direction and speed. Do they have such a thing??? I think that is what Deezee had???? Thanks for any input!

Remote is when you have your steering/starting/throttle controls up at the console like your big engine.

Let me know if you have any further questions,

Panther makes an electric steering unit for kickers. You can turn and adjust speed form a remote anywhere in the boat.

I know Steve is working on a item with Panther that will evolve their product even further. Did you guys know Steve is a rocket scientist? Here I thought he was just a stinky ol fisherman!!

Does this mean that I can convert my T8 with a tiller handle to a remote controlled version?
That would be nice if possible.

Yes Gator Hunter that is what I was looking for. Do you have any idea of the cost or ease of installation???? Thanks!

I believe they are around $350. Installation seems to be pretty straightforward.

They do seem to have their limitations though. I do not like how they only turns at a set speed which is relatively slow compared to a tiller handle. I think James used to have one in one of his boats so he would know more about them than I.

Here is their website http://www.panthermarineproducts.com The product is called the Electro Steer.
