Yesterday was my maiden voyage back down to Pool 2 of the Mississiippi River for my traditional fall/winter/spring season. Everyone knows how much fun it is to pitch plastics for walleyes in shallow water right? Well, this 4-1/2″ YUM Croaker Tail is one of those plastics that will produce some very big fish for you! With the water a little murky yet on Pool 2, I opted to dive for a larger profile of this Croaker Tail and got bit hard on my first stop on a wingdam. First fish with this Croaker tail was a fat 26-3/4″ fish. This plastic offers a good sized profile and a medium sized tail that has awesome action at slow swim speeds. I fished this Croaker tail with BFT’s new unpainted heads in sizes from 1/8th oz to 5/16 oz weights.

This is going to be one of my new go to plastics when I go shallow to pitch for these aggressive big Pool 2 walleyes!

They are scented also. Right Steve. Picked up a eye or 2 today on the yum wooly beaver tails. I would think in this high fast water a good scented bait doesnt hurt.

Steve. Are you running a fishing marathon now. Thought you where out on the pond monday night and then 2 on tuesday. Fish now rest later.

Are you finding the lighter colors taking fish now also. Most of my time is spent on the lighter colors but when I do fish darker they dont even seem to get a bump.

After looking in the yum book the real name of the plastic I fished today is a 2″ firetiger yum wooly curltail. Not to be confused with a yum wooly beavertail or hawgtail

Great looking bait Steve! I’ll bet the Bay de Noc walleye would love those too! I can see dragging them behind a Nuclkeball through the flats.

If someone wanted to add the 5 or 6 best colors to have of this product to their Xmas list what would they be????

After your post on the croaker tails I decided to dig to the bottom of my tackle box and see if there was still a bag of them in there. Found a un opened bag of pearl white/ pink tail croakers. Tipped it with a 5/16th jig and away it went. Ended up with the big fish of the day a few casts later. A nice 25″ eye with The jig was hooked in the top rear of the mouth. Impressive considering the bait is 4.5″ long. This walleye hit the plastic so hard that it started taking line on the strike.
Managed to catch one 18″ eye on the croaker today also.

If I had to pick 5-6 colors?
    YCC4213 Chartruese
    YCC4216 Chartruese Glitter/Strawberry Tail
    YCC4215 Bubble Gum
    YCC4209 Silver Mullet/Chartruese Tail
    YCC4204 Pearl/Firetail
    YCC4218 Silver Shiner
    YCC4220 Electric Chicken

This would be my list to choose for Pool 2!
Couple this potent big fish plastic with a BFT’s H20 Precision Jig and you have one walleye catching machine!

    Good Luck and Merry X-mas
