On motors currently in the US, the duty will not be applied is my understanding. The duty on future outboards is TBD pending Yamaha’s appeal of the ruling.
Mercury talked from both sides of their mouth while in court and on Wall Street. Interesting that it’s OK for them to build motors in Mexico and take jobs away from US workers while making their case on the 4-stroke powerheads Yamaha sold them at a steep discount because they did not have a 4-stroke in development that could make it to market in time. From Mercury’s financial standpoint, they are enjoying record profits. If the prices of engines are raised for their competitors, do you think they will hold their prices.
I will still pay more to run the best and if you want to understand who builds the most reliabile engines, hang around the support trailers at tournaments and see who(s) are the busiest.
That’s my $.02 – I only like to see level playing fields for competitors…
