Have any of you tryed the Web foots body sock for long underware. It looks like very warm stuff but I am just wondering how it holds up. The cuffs on style 2 look pretty good for keeping the hands warmer also.

If you guy recommend any other brands of long johns let me know. Most of what I had in the past was geared towards staying warm during active construction work. This stuff just does not work spending long days sitting in the boat.
Im tired of being cold in the winter.

I’ve had good luck with some Cabela’s polar weight stuff and LOTS of layers. A key is keeping your head and neck warm, and not sweating before you sit for a while (i.e., seal up your layers after you get in the stand or boat). More important than the long underwear, for me, have been a polarfleece neckwarmer and boots that aren’t too tight. The longjohns I’m referring to look and feel like polarfleece, and though I wish they had the cuffs and stirrups, they still keep me warm.

My first layer always starts with Cabelas Thermax. The stuff never wears out either. I have been using the same 3 pairs for years. They have 3 different weights. Personally I’m not fond of thick long underwear as it seem too restrictive to me. I go with the Thermax layer, the pants layer (could also be sweats or fleece) then what I would consider the real warmth layer which is insulated outerwear.
That body sock seems like a good concept except when you had to go number two.

Oh man, does this bring back a memory. We go to the Black Hills every fall, Nov 1 for the deer season. We have a young guy who is slightly rolly polly, I mean he is husky. He’s one of the funnier people I’ve ever met. He has the gift if you know what I mean.

Anyway, he comes rolling into the cabin one evening after a long days hunting. He heads to his room, strips down to the long handles and head to the shower. On his way, one of us notices the right leg on his long handle is extremely short, mid-calf. We ask him what happened. He said “I was walkin’ through the woods and I felt a movement comin’ on. I didn’t have no tickets with me, so I cut the leg of my long underwear off. I had to cut it in a couple smaller pieces of course.” At this point, the whole cabin is on the floor, tears flowing, it was great. He said it like it was second nature to cut off your shorts and wipe yourself with.

Back to the original question. I’ve been wearing the polar fleece from Gander the last couple years. They seem to do a good job as long as you layer up properly. I firmly believe your outside layer has more to do with it than anything. Get yourself something that is wind/waterproof.

    Mike,

I have been wearing this Cabelas Thinsulate Zone long underwear last year. The stuff is the warmest clothing I have ever had. A little bulky, but very warm. Those cold days and nights on Pool 2 in January used to carry me away frozen to the bone. This stuff has been remarkable. I give it a huge review. A little spendy, but how do you put a price on baring the elements in comfort.

I wear a fleece lined jogging pant over top of the Thinsulate pants. Thats all I wear all winter long. I may throw my bibs on over top to cut the wind down, but those two layers are very warm together. The are definately not something you would wear under a pair of jeans, but a loose fitting jogging pants or sweat pants work nice.

Here is a good pic of the “jacket”, The elastic cuffs cover up most of the hands…thats helps out as well.

Not sure. I clicked on the link Steve provided but I got an error page that said the link was being upgraded. I’ll try to find it in the catalog.

Herb. A buddy of mine picked up a pair of the zone long johns that steve was talking about in september. I remember having to waite for the UPS guy to show up before we headed up to Mille Lacs. I had ordered it off of the page that waterfowler put up but after just looking there it does not look to be on there. I would think that even if it is being discontinued there should still be some around. Maybe give them a call.
You do pay top line prices for that stuff but then again it is top of the line stuff.

Cabelas has those Thinsulate Zones……item # ME-92-2042 these are the pants. Item #ME-92-2040 for the top(jacket)

Just go to their website and put that number in the “search by Item #” window.
