Price on Custom Rods…for Catfishing

When I called HOF to order my Power Pro line, Mike answered the phone. (Not Mike…the OTHER Mike) I started to talk to him about custom cat rods. My problem is that I have four rods that I bought off the shelf. There’s things about each of them that I don’t like and like (they all work)

After I told him what I was looking for, he told me the price and I was shocked! It was HALF the price I was expecting to pay!…so I ordered TWO!

AND Mike’s (not Mike, the other Mike) is putting my name on it to ensure Catten Addict doesn’t “accidently” take the wrong St Croix rod home.

    …. it’s been hassle free!

What kind of blank and action rods did you get? HOF’s new site caters mostly to the smallie or walleye guy but there’s no doubt they could do a fantastic job for the catfish and muskie guy too.

James, with Mike’s repuation for making custom rods, I really left it into his hands.

They are St Croix blanks with a med heavy action. From what I hear they’ll stop a barge!

Likely not a bad move at all. Did you aim for a flathead rod or one that could be used for cut bait’n for channel kitties too w/o completely over powering them?

James…you know I only hook into big channels!

That was one of the things I asked for, a rod that I can fling some cut bait a distance, but yet with enough backbone to pull a tractor out from under a snag. Almost sounds contradictory don’t it.

He’s adding about 6 inches to the bottom end to give me some leverage with.

Mike’s going up to Winni the same time I am…hope to meet him up there! The rods won’t be ready….but there’s no Flatheads up there anyway!

with all the grief you give me about my “little croix’s” shame on you I personally love them, very light rods with a lot of backbone. I have a pair of the 7′ heavy action only complaint i have on them is the cheap hook holder on them. But then again mealy worm, I think it would work perfect for holding your 1/8 oz jig tipped with a crappie minnow

OH NO! I bought two of those toothpicks you and H20 use!!!!

Someone’s going to have to show me how to hold out my index finger and which way the line goes over it!

One other note about these cat rods from the Mikes at Hooked on Fishing.
In talking with a friend of mine, (a closet eye fisherman) I’m paying about $40. less for a custom rod, than his St Croix that was bought off the shelf….
I would bet that the custom rods are going to have a GREAT hook keeper!

Checkem out before you go to WallyMart!

PS I’m not sponsered by HOF, St Croix Rods. My only sponser is my wife and she maybe backing out if I don’t get some work done around here!
