    Hey all,
I was just curious if anyone had one of the Lund boats with the vinyl floors in it…I would like to know how you like it, along with the pro’s i’d like to hear the cons as well , and if you would get another boat with vinyl or if you would go back to carpet..

    thanks all

Dave, If I keep my Lund as long as I plan to, it’ll eventually have the carpet replaced with vinyl. The only con I can see right now would be a noise factor.
Down here in Louisa county, the DNR has no courtesy docks at their landings so we’re always tracking in sand and mud. Gets to be a real pain keeping the carpet clean of all that.

    Dave,
The vinyl floor is great. My boat actually has the option of snap in carpeting for the lower deck area. I’ve yet to snap it in and use it.
We have a pretty healthy algae bloom this time of year on Lake Wisconsin. It gets in the boat one way or the other and with the vinyl, its pretty simple to spray down and get rid of.
    Same goes for fish slime.
Spilled soda, beer or whatever cleans up in a breeze also.
If someone spills coffee, I don’t have to worry about having a nice coffee colored patch of carpeting.
It does tend to tear easily if it gets hit with something sharp. For instance, I’ve put rips or holes in two locations so far by pulling out and moving the chairs around. You have to be very careful with the bottom edge on the pedestal of the seat. If you let it hit the vinyl, it’ll tear!

    Almost forgot.
Would my next boat be vinyl or carpet?
Right now, I would probably go with the vinyl.

    Joel,
Do you know for all the lund boats that offer the snap in carpeting is it on the lower deck only or can you get it on the upper deck also?

I got a new Lund 2 years ago and was very seriously considering a vinyl floor. After looking at numerous used boats, I saw their vinyl floors typically had many cuts, tears, dents, rips and holes. I also like to mount/fasten things on the floor and did not want screw holes in the vinyl whenever I decided to move things around.

I ended up getting a charcoal gray carpet and am still very please with its ease of cleaning and ability to hide dirt. For messy fishermen, I think the charcoal gray carpet is better than any other carpet color currently available.

When I bought my Explorer earlier this year, I strongly considered getting the vinyl. You can get the snap in carpeting throughout the entire rig. I didn’t get the vinyl because I knew I would also use the boat for the family (tubing, etc.) and didn’t want to have to worry about putting in the carpet for that. I tested getting the vinyl wet and it was slippery. I definately would want the carpet in for tubing, etc. Additionally, from an aesthetics perspective, I thought the deck, with the snaps exposed without the carpet, looked terrible. If it was just me using the boat, I’d have the vinyl.

I’ve had both vinly and carpet. For me it is just as easy to vacum out v.s. spraying out. Also, for stains such as bait, blood, and coffee just spray on some “Resolve”. Just spray on,wait 3 min., and rub off(easily) with a wet cloth. It works great. I would not go back to vinyl but that is just my opinion.

If you go with the carpet, the ONLY color to consider is dark gray/charcoal color. Hides everyting!

I fished out of a Lund pro-V that had carpet on the casting deck and the rest was vinyl, and that seemed like a sweet setup. Since you do most 3-waying with bait in the back, it is nice to have the easy cleanup features of vinyl, but also the carpeted casting deck has the nice looks in the front. Best of both worlds. Thanks

I’ve fished in my boat during rain a few times now and have not had any problems with slipping.
I usually wear aqua socks in warm weather and rubber boots in cold weather. The slipping problem may have as much to do with your foot wear as the vinyl.
