Minn Kota Question

Has anyone broken the trolling motor mount on a Min kota . I just broke my second one on my Motorguide and really dont know if I want to spend the money on it again. The bracket would not be so bad but it seems to have blown a curcuit board again like last time and they run 100$. I dont really have 700 $ to throw at a new one but it will probably cost 250$ to fix this one. How do you guys get along with the Minn Kotas when you hit something very solid pretty hard?

Dave, My Maxxum has a breakaway feature that I’ve used plenty of times and no problems so far.

Dave which Motorguide mount do you have? I have had the Gator Mount for 5 years and have had no proplems with it.

I have had bow mounted MinnKotas on four different boats over the years and have not had a single problem with any of the motors or mounts! That is why I keep buying them.

    Spinner Dave,

I feel for you bud, I use to run Motorguides and had nothing but problems with them. Circuit boards going out was one of many problems I had dealt with over a couple years with them. I switched back to Minn Kota Maxxum 101 and have never been happier. Reliable, rugged, and durable.

Rather than putting up a bunch of money for a new one. You may want to search around a bit for some used ones. Motor Clinic in Bloomington may have some re-mfg ones for cheaper costs, otherwise check with JollyAnn Sales .He has all kinds of deals going on right Wade?

    Good luck to you.

Steve, does motor clinic have a website? My trollie is in need of some work, and Bloomington is pretty close to the office.

    Thanks

    Steve,

I am told that we have some of the best prices on Minn Kota motors, especially when you consider the free shipping and no sales tax for non-Iowa buyers. There are a few promotions going on right now.

As for the question above, I have used Motor Guide and Minn Kota. I will never use Motor Guide again. I personally run a Minn Kota Power Drive and it hasn’t given me any trouble. Good Luck!

Thanks guys, That is the kind of input I was looking for. Both of my t.m. failures in the past 2 years have been pre-fishing for a nite tourny. I must admit they were hard knocks while fishing around timber. I do not know what I hit Sat., it just grabbed the motor and drug it down. The only thing I can think of is maybe on old fence ran thru there and I caught on it.I feel a change of brands may be in order. I had a 72 lb M.G. with Gator mount . Thanks again

I had a Big Water Gator mount and continually broke the rods that holds the springs tight.

    I now run Minn Kota
