OK so stupid me, dropped a plastic bait over the side of the boat, and my livewell pump retrieved it…. It’s stuck in the intake, and it doesn’t look like I can just pull the thing out, How the heck do I take my livewell pump off? It’s a 2001 Lund Rebel, it looks like there is a big nut on the back of the boat, can I just screw that off? Is this going to reseal and not leak water? Any help is apperciated, I really should fix this tonight or tomorrow morning…. Stupid stupid me… I guess I deserved this…

You can unscrew the nut. I don’t have a rebel, but if the pump is mounted right to the pipe, it’s probably a single molding.

It should reseal easily, but if it doesn’t you could add an O-ring or even a gloob of silicone (yes, “gloob” is a word us serious techno-types use a lot, along with “hosed”)

Seemed simple enough, and from your post gianni, it doesn’t sound like there is any real tricks, so I’ll find out tomorrow if it leaks or not, I doubt if it leaks it would be enough to sink me anyway.

    Thanks

IF your pump is the cartridge style it might be easier to go down through the access hatch that is likely located in your splashwell and give the top of the pump a quarter turn counter clockwise. The motor will lift out and you’ll be able to untangle anything that might be wrapped up in the impeller. A quarter turn back to the right will seat the bugger back in place and you’re good to go.

Mine had three screws holding it together, but After I took it out I realized I probably could’ve just taken those same three screws out, and not the fitting connecting it to the boat too, luckily I had the GF’s little hands to get into the tight spaces back there, and it wasn’t really a problem, hopefully it’s sealed up now, tomorrow I’ll know for sure.

Its possible the impeller could be shot, if so, you can replace just the impeller. Besure to get a screen for your intake and re-seal the nut you took off with marine sealant when the pump is working again.

Worked great today, and it was a good thing the box was full
