My new yammi 75hp 4-stroke has developed a noise that sounds like a squealing belt. Not all the time but enough that its distracting. I broke the motor in properly and have changed oil anf filter twice. There looks like there is a belt in the top of engine. How can I remidy this problem. Also is it advisable to use the synthetic Moble 1 oil in the engine—Thanks in advance

Not sure about the squeel. But since it’s brand new, might as well take it in for a check.

Might be worth a try, on cars with squeeling belts, I just take a bar of soap and while it’s running rub the bar on the belt till the noise stops.

Mobil 1 is good stuff. I use it in my 4-stroke kicker. I’d highly recommend the stuff.

Jon, you might think it’s a dumb question,
(yeah, I know, there are no dumb questions on this site)
but curiosity got the better of me. Wouldn’t rubbing soap on the belt have a tendancy to cause slippage?

Just an old trick I learned in high school shop class. Never seen a belt slip. The soap is applied to the top and side of the belt.

huh? I’ll have to remember that……….seems like it would be the opposite???? Slippery soap on a slippery belt????

It must soften up the belt a bit.

You can also purchase “belt dressing” at auto parts stores. Comes in a can and you spray it on the pullys. Keeps things “sticky”.

Toothpaste also stop belts from squealing. But don’t use gel.

I have the same noise on my 225. I have close to 100 hours on mine this year. I figure it is a belt. If it was someting else it would have happened by now. It occurs just above idle rpm’s and not all the time.

My new Yami F75 was doing the same thing earlier this month. I havent heard it since though.
It does sound like a belt slipping.
